Foot Pain

Like the foundation of a house, the feet support the weight of everything above them. Made up of 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, 19 muscles and tendons, problems can arise with any one or more of these structures and cause signs and symptoms of pain, discomfort, instability, and/or swelling.

Causes

Injury, overuse, improper footwear, or physical conditions such as being overweight can cause pain and inflammation involving the muscles, tendons, ligaments, or bone of the foot.

Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. Pain arises from irritation or inflammation of the band of tough tissue (plantar fascia) connecting from the heel bone to the toes. It is often described as stabbing pain upon weight bearing.

Other conditions chiropractic can help with includes ball of foot pain, metatarsalgia, and pain associated with being flat footed (pes planus) or high arched (pes cavus).
