Ankle Pain

The ankle also called the talocrural joint is made up of three bones, the tibia and fibula in the leg and talus in the foot. Supported by ligaments, tendon, and muscles, it is a strong joint that bears the entire body weight. Injuries to these structures can cause discomfort, pain, or/and swelling.

Causes

Pain may be felt on the inside, outside, or on top of the ankle or along the Achilles tendon, which connects the muscles in the lower leg to the heel bone.

Ankle sprains can happen while rolling, twisting, or turning on the ankle in an awkward way. Most common are outer ankle sprains in comparison to inner ankle sprains. A sprain can cause the ankle to go out of alignment and may require corrective chiropractic adjustment.

Another common ankle injury is achilles tendinopathy. It is a condition that causes pain, swelling, and stiffness of the Achilles tendon. It may happen from repetitive injuries and overuse.
